Introduction:

Because of environmental degradation Integrated Watershed Development Programme was launched in three sub-watershed, Devak and Ramkote Shivalik region of Jammu and Dudhganga in Karewas region of Kashmir province. The IWDP Phase-I was actually conceived in 1990 for a period of 7 years with the World Bank assistance of US$18.57 million with the closing date 30th of June 1997, but on conclusion of designated period, there remained unspent US$7.94 equivalent to INR Rs. 3200.00 lacs and IWDP Phase-I was accorded extension for two year i.e 1997-98 and 1998-1999.
